Julien Stéphan says Arnaud Kalimuendo will remain at Rennes

Arnaud Kalimuendo (21) is a target for Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, and whilst the France U21 international alluded to being open to a move, Julien Stéphan has seemingly closed the door to a departure.

For now, I’m here, said Kalimuendo last week in the wake of Rennes’ Coupe de France victory. It was a less than convincing response from the former Paris Saint-Germain forward, who is the subject of intense interest from Eintracht Frankfurt, according to L’Équipe. An offer worth a little over €20m had even been submitted, as per a report from the publication.

Contradictory discourse

“For now, I’m here. It’s Sunday and I am a Stade Rennais player and I don’t know the future. Only God knows that,” added Kalimuendo, who had reportedly even agreed personal terms with the Bundesliga side. If Kalimuendo opened the door to a departure from Rennes, his manager closed it on Saturday.

“Arnaud is part of the project […] he is Rennais and he will remain Rennais and he will bring us a lot,” said Stéphan after Saturday night’s victory over OGC Nice. However, when questioned by Canal Plus, Kalimuendo remained evasive on the issue, refusing to commit his future to the Breton club. “My desire? I am making the most of being here. We’ll see what happens, we’re talking with the club,” said the Frenchman.
