Marquinhos could return to Arsenal in January with premature end to Nantes loan discussed

According to L’Équipe, Marquinhos (20) could be set to return to Arsenal 6 months earlier than planned. A premature end to his loan at Nantes has been discussed between the two clubs which would see him return to the Emirates stadium in January. Nantes officials have initiated the talks with the Brazilian forward’s parent club. Marquinhos signed for Nantes on loan in the summer of 2023.

The former Norwich loanee has featured sporadically for Les Canaris this season. Marquinhos has only made 7 appearances in the famous yellow shirt this season which has totalled to an accumulative playing time of 149 minutes during his time in Ligue 1. A lack of playing time could be one of the reasons behind the early termination being discussed.

Marquinhos to feature in CONMEBOL pre-Olympic tournament

The 20-year-old wants to take part in the CONMEBOL pre-Olympic tournament which takes place at the end of January. If the Arsenal forward is to participate in the tournament, this would make him unavailable for Gourvennec’s side. The tournament is not recognised by FIFA. Nantes are against Marquinhos going to the tournament and this is being used as one of the reasons for the early termination of his loan during discussions with the Gunners.
